Join The Outdoor Opportunity Coalition and Senator Martin Heinrich, the current National Outdoor Opportunity Fund sponsor. This legislation will reshape the lives of youth and families nationwide by creating greater opportunities for valuable nature-based experiences. The National Outdoor Opportunity Act would establish a new Congressionally chartered foundation similar to the National Park Foundation. This foundation would secure investments to provide grants to state-based opportunity funds and other in-state organizations that expand outdoor opportunities for young people. This legislation is inspired by the success and momentum of the outdoor funds created in North Carolina, New Mexico, Colorado, and California.
This legislation will:
Foster a stronger connection between youth and the outdoors.
Improve physical and mental well-being for youth.
Prepare and inspire young people to pursue outdoor careers.
Support our $1.2 trillion outdoor recreation economy.
What is stated on the Bill?
The National Outdoor Opportunity Fund would increase outdoor recreation opportunities by creating a national foundation that would raise private dollars for a federal Outdoor Opportunity Grants Program. This program would support organizations and activities that increase access to the outdoors for youth. Eligible grant recipients include:
States that have existing Outdoor Opportunity Funds
Tribal Nations
Tribal Organizations
Multistate Organizations
Local Organizations (in states without a State Outdoor Opportunity Fund)
Establishing a National Outdoor Opportunity Fund to provide grants to state-based funds, and will incentivize the creation of more funds to expand recreation opportunities in more locations across the country!
